ReviewsSnow Chains Size 80 8 8did the job, a bit fiddly. A bit fiddly to put on (but it was the first attempt and it was snowing) and one fell off and broke the rubber retaining clip....probably would have been better to try them out and learn how to fix them on properly before being required to perform. Apart form that, they did the job - got me up the snowy derbyshire hills while others floundered. 10 December 2010not tried in anger Procures these 'just in case' but have yet to use them in anger. Have tried fitting to see how easy it was. Very easy to fit took only a few minutes on the spare wheel indoors and only a bit longer on the car. However, have not tried when in deep mud/snow..... Would recommend the purchase of a rubber mat/sheet to put on ground to kneel upon. 07 March 2010snow chains Although a little pratice in fitting the ice block chains is required overall they do what they say on the box. In my view every car should have a set in the boot as a precaution. This would save a lot of problems on majour roads when the snow appears,. Good value for money and very handy to have. 24 January 2010Snow Chains After using a well known brand of snow chains for many winters of ski trips with my other car, I was concerned at the quality of the Halfords snow chain linkages when opening the box at home. The linkages did infact break before fitting had been completed. Returned 2 hours later. 21 January 2010Snow Chains Give 4wd traction in Snow & mud If you've been Stuck in Snow due either : A) Your car is the one stuck B) Your stuck in a queue cos someone else is stuck C) Can't get to the main road due to snow. Having a set of snow in the car once will overcome all of these issues. The chains are a traditional type commonly used in Alpine countries. The chains are galvanised with welded links. The chains are pressed into the snow and the cars weight forces presses the chain links onto the tyre tread. This interaction allows you drive safely on any snow covered road. This means you can drive home on back roads and avoid the traffic queues since everyone else will be using the main roads. They do need practice to fit quickly though. Once you done it 2 or 3 times you can get fit them in 5-10 mins. First time will take longer - In my case about hour or so. 18 January 2010Snow Chains Bought chains recently they worked well after I got them to stay on the wheels. The idea for joining the band which goes round the inner side of the wheel is very poor as it just pulls through when under strain. I would suggest a stronger type of link which cannot open until you want to remove the chains. Part from that after a slight modification I found them very helpful in the poor conditions. "11 inches of snow on a one mile long untarred road". 14 January 2010Good Performance Having just braved the Cumbrian Hills over the Xmas period I can safely say these chains work very well. I was well and truly stuck attempting to climb a hill with two children, wife and full luggage on board and still 2hrs from our destination. The chains fitted perfectly and drove me nine miles with confidence until I reached level ground and a slightly clearer road surface (not by much). I would of scored these a 5/5 if it were not for the slighly poor instructions and I believe they could be priced slightly cheaper. Having said that it proved cheaper than recovery or having to attempt to find alternative accomodation for the night. They do exaclty what they say on the box with no damage to either tyre or alloy wheel.... definately recommend 28 December 2009Ideal for ski trip Good budget chain, ideal for once a year trip to European skii resorts. 26 May 20091-8 of 8
