Touch up wheel paint. On my car (Seat Bocanegra) I have dark alloy wheels which sit proud of the rim, and pick up all the stone chips on winter roads. The car manuafacturer does not supply a touch up paint, so I thought I would have to employ a wheel refurbishment company for a few stone chips, or take a chance with a touch up paint. Anthracite wheel paint, was the paint I took my chances with. The colour is not exact, but close enough for a few small stone chips. It would have been nice to have a touch-up pen, to reduce the cost, but did not feel for a whole can the price was too bad. So instead used the old trick of spraying in the lid and using a small brush to touch up the spots. Word of warning - the filler primer from Halfords touch-up kits dissolve with this paint. i.e even after the 24 hours hardening, too much paint on the first coat will have the top coat and primer mixing! Just use a small amount and light brush strokes for the first coat, and it will be fine. Do not try to cover the chip with one coat, build the colour up. 03 March 2011

Hi, thanks for your interest in Halfords Wheel Paint Anthracite Spray 500ml.The recommendation from the manufacturer is that you use U-POL Acid #8 Etch Primer before applying this paint. This will help the paint to adhere, and should provide a better, more even finish.

The PU lacquer says I should wet sand the colour before applying the lacquer, but it doesn't mention this on the can.

I have heard that metallic colours can have the lacquer put straight on - is this the case here?

Metallics can have the lacquer put straight on if the finish is nice and even. Many inexperienced sprayers tend to end up with darker areas where they have over-applied the paint which is why we recommend a light sanding to even it out before application of the lacquer.
