Usual quality Halfords tools I've been buying Halfords tools for years and I'm always happy with the quality and price, especially when you take advantage of their offers. 14 September 2012
Good quality for price! This set provides a broad range of sockets/spanners which should allow most maintenance jobs on a modern (-ish) vehicle, ie metric sizes. The quality of the set is good, with well-fitting sockets and spanners to the fastener sizes on the car. Note: some (lower quality) socket sets are terribly toleranced and, in my experience, can cause damage/slippage. However, the Halfords Advanced Professional range seem pretty good in this respect. If you calculate the individual price of the tools contained in this set, with the 170 piece set currently being offered at 30% off list price, the value is easy to see! Haven't used my set 'in anger' yet, just a few little jobs needing doing urgently, ie fitting a new back brake cylinder and new suspension drop links on my Focus, but look forward to using this set on bigger stuff I have to do soon. Recommended set I was planning on getting the 150pc set, but saw the 170pc in the display cabinet and on checking the content was swayed by the fact this set contains ratchet spanners for all sizes rather than just the odd few. Great set for an enthusiast or even a professional I decided to upgrade my tool collection to something with a bit better quality and this set is definitely that! Being the Halfords Advanced, professional kit this has to be the best set of tools I've ever owned. Everything works great and feels like it's made very well and will hold together despite whatever force you throw at it. Also having ratchet spanners included in the set instead of standard ones is a great plus. These are something that I've never used before and I really didn't know what I've missed. They are excellent to use and much easier at undoing those overly tight nuts! The case is strong and sturdy and great at keeping everything in its place as I've found with other sets in the past despite slotting the tools in they always seem to come out, they don't in this! The handle on the case has a rubber material so it's comfy to hold too. The tools themselves as I've said feel very well made and they are heavy to hold so the quality really is excellent and for this price you can't go wrong, saving ÂŁ130 off of the original price is an excellent saving! Also if anything goes wrong don't forget providing you keep your receipt, with the Halfords lifetime guarantee if anything breaks when you are using it they will replace it for free in any of their stores, which is a great reason to buy as this is a set is something that you can keep for life especially since it has everything in it that I'd possibly need for servicing and maintenance around the engine and with the interior and exterior trim on the car. 09 August 2012

The hex recess allows full engagement of the nut / bolt and the deep socket is machined to allow for protruding threads where a standard socket cannot be used. The shallow hex allows easier engagement when fasteners are in recessed applications.
