If you're one of the millions of people who will be heading to a festival this summer, Halfords have some great advice on how to make the most out of it.

From tips about your tent and sleeping bag to handy info on what to wear, we've covered the basic festival camping essentials just for you.

Festival essentials to protect from the weather

Our biggest top tip is to be prepared for the British weather as you never know what it might bring! Take a look at our festival tents buyer's guide for some great advice to help you pick out a decent tent.

Make sure to take:

  • Sunglasses and sun cream - sunburn's no fun at a festival!
  • Warm hoody or jacket - it can get pretty chilly at night, even in the summer
  • Wellies - these will keep your feet dry, plus they're the height of festival fashion!
  • Hat - protects your head and hides your hair after 3 days of living in a tent
  • Poncho or rain mac - store in your bag at all times for unexpected showers

A power bank is also a great idea to make sure that you've got enough juice to keep your gadgets going. That way, if you need to make an emergency call, navigate home or just play some music and take some selfies, you're covered.

Food and drink festival essentials

Save some money by cooking your own food, but make sure you check what cooking equipment you're allowed to take. If you want to cook your own food, you'll need:

  • Water carrier
  • Cutlery, plates, cups
  • Saucepan/frying pan
  • Camping stove or barbecue
  • Fuel - like gas canisters or solid fuel such as charcoal, plus a lighter or matches

It's best to take dried or tinned food like noodles, pasta and beans. Most festivals allow you to take your own alcohol with you - but some don't allow glass, so take plastic bottles or cans instead.

Don't pay premium prices at festivals, with our great range of camping accessories, you can look and feel as fresh as a daisy.

Make sure to take along:

  • Dry shampoo and dry wash gel
  • Painkillers - for a clear head the morning after
  • Baby wipes and deodorant - help you to freshen up quickly
  • Toilet roll - festivals quickly run out of this, so take your own supply
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush - brush using a bottle of water if you can't get to a sink
