Carrera Vulcan E Electric Mountain Bike – 16”, 18”, 20”, 22” Frames
Make light work of mountains with the Carrera Vulcan E. The 417Wh battery will give you up to 50 miles of electric pedal power – perfect to get you over those peaks. And when you’re back after riding, a charge time of 6 hours means the Vulcan E will be ready to go again in no time. Power is delivered by a rear hub motor with torque sensor, for smooth and responsive assistance when you need it. Add in a lightweight aluminium frame plus 9-speed Shimano Altus gears and you’ve got a bike that offers seamless climbing. For the descents, there’s the Vulcan E’s strong hydraulic disc brakes. A Suntour Suspension fork with 120mm of travel allows you to tackle trails with ease, while double wall alloy rims and Kenda tyres provide excellent grip on the ride down. If you’re looking for effortless electric riding, on and off road, the Vulcan E is an outstanding option.
MotorThe Carrera Vulcan E is built around a fantastic Suntour rear hub electric motor system, seamlessly integrated into the rear wheel. The power control in the system is delivered courtesy of a premium Torque sensor, which gradually eases the power in and out in response to your input, providing a natural ride characteristic and a real reason to upgrade from more basic speed sensor systems. The quality of the Torque sensor is really notable when accelerating out of corners and make small, or when making tighter intricate maneuvers. As required by law, the motor will automatically stop assisting you once you achieve a speed of 15.5mph.
BatteryWith a frame-mounted Li-Ion Phylion battery mounted on the Vulcan E’s down-tube, weight is balanced against the rear mounted hub motor providing an improved ride quality, over those with rear-mounted batteries. With a large battery capacity of 417Wh / 11.58Ah and a range of up to 50miles per charge the Vulcan is very capable of going the distance. As standard on all Carrera E-bikes, the Vulcan comes with an integrated smart control system that protects the battery from overheating, short circuiting or overcharging. The battery re-charges in just 6 hours, and comes with a full 2-year / 500 charge warranty.
Note; The total travel distance will depend on the capacity of the battery, rider and luggage weight, power mode setting and riding style.
Head-UnitThe electric motor of the Carrera Vulcan is controlled via full LCD Suntour Head Unit. The detachable head unit allows you to choose from one of 4 assistance modes, depending on the level of support you require. The unit also allows the user to view additional data such as Speed and Mileage to provide additional data whilst riding. The display is located centrally, directly below the line of vision whilst riding, allowing you to keep your attention on the trail.

Carrera Vulcan Electric Mountain Bike - 16", 18", 20", 22" Frames is rated out of 5 by 49.Rated 5 out of 5 by Aidy1975 from Fantastic entry level e bike I have a 8 mile commute to work - not a lot I hear you shout - but it is a rather hilly route. I have been doing this on my road bike but when the cycle to work option came up I decided to try an e bike. I was considering either the Vulcan or the crossfire but I eventually went for the Vulcan purely for its versatility. I was not disappointed! The bike is superb in all conditions, I’ve taken it on a purpose built local mtb trail and it felt strong and dependable. The commuting has become much more leisurely now but I don’t use any other mode than ‘eco’ so I stil get a decent work out. On the flat and downhill I turn the power off which helps save battery power but trying to pedal on an incline with no power is not such a good idea! I have had a couple of cut outs but a simple reset and it’s up and running again. (Had to give 4 stars on performance due to this) I’ve owned the bike for 3 weeks and haven’t used my car for anything, it really does give you the motivation to cycle everywhere. I can already tell my fitness is improving and my weight is starting to drop. The battery power is good not quite as much as stated but that depends heavily on conditions ie rider weight, his hard you ride and what setting you are in. I would definitely recommend this bike if you are considering your first e bike. Had a couple of issues with it cutting out for no reason, but this seems to have sorted its self out now. Comfortable ride and battery lasts well. The charge remains in the battery even when left for a few days in the garage. The other issue I had was tyres. They get punctured really easy, so I would recommend you get slime tubes or a tyre that is less susceptible to punctures. Other than that it’s a good entry electric bike.Date published: 2018-05-17Rated 4 out of 5 by Johnwiles2 from Good basic e-bike A very good basic e-bike comparable with market leaders like Cube, Giant and Trek but at about half the price. Maybe a little heavier than some but no e-bike is light! Do your own research, try others and try Halfords 30 minute trial, but don't necessarily be 'advised' by Halfords' staff unless you have confidence in your local branch because, in my experience, their expertise is not worth a great deal. Main problem is a really poor build quality. On my second replacement bike in less than a year because of too many component failures that cannot be fixed. Have to add Halfords mechanics are really poor cannot adjust gears or true a wheel, but are great at at blaming a ...lack of communication...when you pick your bike after a week and no repaires have been done. I bought this bike for £1000 but see it is now priced at £1250 . DO NOT BUY. Save a few more quid and a better quality bike.Date published: 2018-03-01Rated 4 out of 5 by Namdoogp from New lease of life I bought the electric version as I am 60 and haven’t ridden a bike since my teens. I have now used it for a week riding to work 4 miles away, I must say that it has given me a new lease of life, with a good range of assistance levels to choose from it is just enough to allow someone as unfit as myself to cycle to work, but still feel my leg muscles being worked. When the battery goes flat it is very noticeable, but after only one week I can already feel myself getting fitter. I have had no problems with it as yetDate published: 2018-02-23Rated 4 out of 5 by Rayz from The Carrera Vulcan, has very Good Hydraulic Disc Brakes The Pedal assistance on Eco mode is 25% and not really noticeable, the Tour mode is 50% assistance and is Good! The Climb mode is 75% assistance and is very good to take you up hills! The Turbo mode is very Good but flattens the battery too quickly so I don't use it, I mainly use the Tour mode as it's adequate, and it works well up to 16MPH. The front suspension is good with the Lock out forks and 120mm.of travel.Date published: 2018-02-15
