Additional InformationIt is a characteristic of PU lacquers that they may cause yellowing over white paint. It is therefore recommended that a maximum of 2 coats are used for white finishes. If a deeper gloss is required, spray two light coats of Universal Clear Lacquer (324905) on paint work, allow to fully dry then overcoat with two light coats of Heavy Duty PU Lacquer.
Rated 2.4 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.Rated 1 out of 5 by JimmyLId Rubbish Very 'thin' out of the can ... Therefore prone to drips and sagging. If you use this stuff spray from further away and go very lightly. I had drips which I sanded back, but went a bit far so had to touch up with more base. The slightest contact with the clear gave the dreaded reaction. Took me hours to rectify. During this process I noticed that the in places the clear was peeling off all to easily. Adhesion / compatibility with other paint is definitely an issue. I think though after maybe 3 or 4 days the clear with fully cure and adhesion should be better?? 14 July 2016Rated 1 out of 5 by Alexcsb Poor product after following the instructions to the letter to apply this stuff over the top of halfords primer and paint. It looked good for the first few weeks and then the lacquer peeled straight off. Don't waste your money on this product. 05 March 2016Rated 5 out of 5 by Tardis7 Great product We used this to coat our wheels after spraying, works well and looks super shiny 23 September 2015Rated 1 out of 5 by 1bobpainterr PU LACQUER DO NOT buy this stuff unless you wan't you're body panels or bumpers to come out looking terrible! i have had 2 specialist painters try and use this stuff and both failed! as me and the two other painters have said this stuff should not be used as it gives a terrible finish no matter how it's used. save your money and just buy clear lacquer! 20 September 2015Rated 1 out of 5 by Dash1234 This product is the worst purchase ever I recently purchased this lacquer as the spray can recommended, and I followed the instruction as stated in the lacquer. After a week I've drove my car and during the rain majority of the lacquer peeled off, extremely frustrated as I've spent a lot of time trying to refurb my alloys. 18 September 2015Rated 4 out of 5 by STdriver Good budget option for wheels Bought two of these along with Halfords Anthracite wheel paint after much deliberating. Found that one can of PU lacquer is more than enough for two wheels, but not enough for four - and that's just doing the face of 18in wheels. As people have said, it does discolour light finishes, but it states this on a big sticker, so quite why people carry on and use it on white wheels is a mystery. I followed the instructions to the letter, and got great results with the anthracite paint. You might be tempted to skip parts, such as sanding down the base coat, but don't - you can see the results in the photo. When you first spray it, it looks uneven and a bit brown, but wait 8 hours or so, and it turns perfectly clear and shiny, leaving the colour underneath exactly the same as it was before. I'm hoping that unlike another reviewer on here that the lacquer won't peel off in big strips - I think the key is to wait a fortnight until it has properly cured / hardened before driving the car long distances or in poor conditions. As it stands, I'm extremely happy with the results. Just hope the 'heavy duty' part lives up to the claim. 01 October 2014Rated 5 out of 5 by Shadowfax1802 Halfords PU Heavy Duty Lacquer I purchased this to finish off my Alloy Wheels once they were sanded, primed and painted. Managed to Refurbish all 4 Wheels on Using 1 tin of the Lacquer and really brought out a nice smooth finish. Great for use on Silver Alloys, but does say on the tin about a yellowing effect if used on lighter colours/White. Note you get a much improved coat if you have warmed the tin before hand in hot tap water. 23 June 2013Rated 1 out of 5 by IRRITATED1 Awful I bought this lacquer along with the anthracite wheel paint, I spent a long time refurbishing my alloys and finished off the anthracite coat which looked spot on and finally finished with this PU LACQUER all was well and all on and fitted and looked perfect like brand new,but after just a few days the lacquer started to peel off in long strips and now the wheels look AWFUL,I am not new to spray painting and have done full resprays on cars before using my compressor, and like to use rattle cans for rims etc and tried this lacquer for the first time and it is AWFUL completely ruined my wheels I am embarrassed by the finish I tell people that my wheels came like that, just AWFUL,use the standard lacquer I have never had a problem with that one I just chose to use this as it was recommended for wheels,AWFUL!. 01 June 2013
