Tomtom XL Europe I purchased this sat nav as a replacement for my ageing Tomtom 300 which is still going strong after years of hard use. It was nice to see that it's replacement is as easy to use, customising POI's etc is just as easy even down to voice alerts etc. If I have one niggle it is the fact that the XL does not switch itself on and off as the 300 did when connected to an ignition controlled DC outlet. Aside from that I am very pleased with the XL. 23 April 2012
Best for cycle touring Don't want to ride only by GPS but want to check you're going the right way or you want to find your hotel in a town centre by the most direct route and then locate the eateries nearby - then this TomTom is perfect. Lightweight, simple to use, simple screen display and at a price way below other GPS bike systems. Small enough to carry in a cycle jersey pocket or saddle bag. 15 April 2012

Great Buy I needed a replacement Sat Nav as my old TomTom 510 had died, i went online and found Halfords offered the best deals, ordered it online, picked it up the next day, no problems at all very easy way to buy.I am very please with this new XL which includes maps of Western Europe, the display is great very detailed, it is easy to enter your information & set it up.. over all very pleased with this TomTom & very pleased with Halfords, will certainly use them again. 17 March 2012

You have to plug the Sat Nav into your computer, using the lead provided, and follow the instructions on the Sat Nav site. If you need to download a new map it can cost more than just buying a new sat nav!

Speed camera should work automatically with a pre loaded database. A subscription is then required to keep the unit up to date.

Only if they're Garmin maps.

You can put them on an external Micro-SD card and plug that in.

Or use the Garmin software to change the maps on your device.

Yes, but see my review. Only a 2Gb mem on this baby, so you will need to back it up, wipe the UK and Euro maps and then install the US map. When you come back home do a full restore on the unit form your original back up to Nav around the UK and Europe. You will of course have the US maps backed up so you can reinstall should you be returning to the good old USA
