Boardman MTB PRO Pedal is rated out of 5 by 7.Rated 5 out of 5 by Ruklaw from A very lightweight alternative to Shimano SPD pedals. I'm running three sets of these now, two of them have done a good few hundred miles without issue so I thought I'd spend the money on a third. The primary feature of these pedals is low weight - at circa 290g they are 100g lighter than the very slightly cheaper Shimano M520 model - and in my experience they don't appear any less reliable. You can spend considerably more to save a little extra weight, but I can't see the point when relatively speaking these are already so light - particularly when you factor that they are dual-sided. When new the pedals tend not to spin very freely - they do turn smoothly but they won't spin - so I'd imagine they take a fair bit of running in to hit peak smoothness (or, a bit of adjustment if you are a perfectionist for these things). This didn't cause any difficulty clipping in however, which was as easy on the new set as any of my others. They do appear to be easy to service, not requiring any special tools beyond a spanner and allen key, but I've never done so - the pricing is in that range where I would be more inclined to just replace them should it come to it and save the servicing for a rainy day. Ultimately, with the M520 pedals having gone up in price over the past few years (so used to be £15, now closer £20) and these available for not much over £20 I can't see myself buying anything else as long as Halfords keep selling them. The pedals come with cleats but they work well with shimano cleats also. The pedals are fitted with a hex wrench no pedal spanner fit possible. They look great with a high chromed finish and they are much smaller and lighter than the shimano equivalent. I used the shimano cleats which were already on my shoes and first impressions were that there was more float than Shimano pedals. I tightened the cleat tensioners and then they seemed perfect. A quick spin to confirm and yes very happy with the purchase. Only one small negative ....the high gloss chrome finish does scratch quite easily and even after one short ride scratches were visible. This might make them not look so good after heavy use.Date published: 2018-04-25Rated 2 out of 5 by CubeBiker from Pedal with a fault. The rubber seal on shaft comes out on every single ride, which can then let dirt and water in. Not a good design.Date published: 2018-04-21Rated 5 out of 5 by BaconButty from Great alternative to Shimano Great set of compatible pedals. Much lighter than similarly priced shimano pedals and look a lot better too.Date published: 2018-01-16Rated 5 out of 5 by Edufit123 from Best two sided mtb clip in pedals The pedals were perfectly set up and tensioned straight from box. Easily fitted to shimano chainset. I have rode approx 750 miles in all weather's on my road training bike and they are perfect. They have not tarnished or rusted and look very expensive. Like all Boardman products l have purchased they are the best value and functionality available.Date published: 2017-10-10Rated 5 out of 5 by Brodieevolution from Boardman Pro pedal, better than expect!! I looked at these pedals in my local store a few months ago, and decided that they would be worth a try and the cleats are the same as Shimano cleats, and they felt well made. Sonhave fitted them to my new Cannondale CX bike and so far impressed. Only time will tell, but they do have a two year warranty.Date published: 2017-08-19Rated 3 out of 5 by ElliottDavo from Good, but unclipping is a struggle Overall good, but struggle to unclip quickly. Sometimes I'm out but I don't get the usual click, and sometimes I have to wiggle a bit to get out. A pain in the backside when doing Cyclocross Coming from Deore XT, I've gone to M540 as something similar that works better.Date published: 2017-08-10
