Introduction

The MTR has evolved to meet the demands of modern trail riders and the increasingly progressive UK trails. Developed to be the ideal "downcountry" aggressive trail bike, the MTR series now features 130mm of front and rear travel with a 65.5- head angle and a 77.5- seat angle.

These design changes mean that whichever way you point it, up or down, and whatever you point it at, the MTR is a more than capable companion.

Frame & Fork

As with the rest of the updated MTR range, the 8.6 benefits from a longer top tube and slacker head angle than its predecessor. These changes improve handling and stability, keeping you in charge as you push the limits. The steeper seat angle also keeps your weight centralised in the bike during steep climbs, improving pedalling efficiency and traction on more demanding terrain. Internal cable routing keeps things looking clean, and a UDH hanger as a standard reduces concerns about replacements if the bike takes a slam.

A Suntour XCR34 Boost air fork delivers smooth, tuneable 130mm of travel. The fork also features a crown-mounted Speed Lockout, providing a simple, clutter-free way to lock the forks out during prolonged fire road climbs. A custom-tuned RockShox Deluxe Select R rear shock is paired with the Suntour fork, when combined with the MTR's progressive suspension curve, the bike delivers incredible levels of grip and excellent support through large compressions and drops.

Groupset

microSHIFT's ADVENT X groupset with an 11-48, 10-speed cassette and clutch derailleur provides durable performance.

This groupset is designed to withstand the rigours of trail riding, ensuring that your bike's performance remains consistent over time.

Tektro HD-280 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors offer controlled braking in any condition with easy adjustment and maintenance.

Wheels & Tyres

A front Maxxis Forekaster paired with a rear Rekon is the perfect "fit and forget" choice for the 8.6, chosen with UK conditions in mind. Designed specifically for the demands of modern shorter-travel trail bikes, they feature versatile tread patterns that roll fast on firm trail centre surfaces but provide enough grip when the local forest becomes boggy in winter.

Wide, tubeless-compatible rims support the Maxxis tyres, and sealed cartridge bearing hubs keep them rolling through the unpredictable British weather.

Finishing Kit

A wide, supportive Boardman MTB saddle provides a solid platform for seated pedalling, whilst a textured surface allows you to reposition your weight as the trail demands.

Up front, a strong, reliable 6061 alloy bar and short 45mm alloy stem, with Boardman lock-on grips, help ensure the bike goes in the direction you point it.
