Halfords 5/32" Aheadset Ball Cages and GreaseThe Halfords 5/32" Aheadset Ball Cages and Grease gives you lucky folk two cages and 5g of lithium grease to do what you please with. We recommend as replacement parts for 1 1/8" headsets and as lubricant for your bikes bits.
Halfords Aheadset Ball Cages and Grease - 5/32" is rated out of 5 by 12.Rated 1 out of 5 by zxcvbnm99 from Waste of time and money I bought these from the Broadbridge Heath store - drove 20 minutes, taking the previous bearings for comparison. Both 'experts' in the shop verified they were the exact replacement. On installation they didn't fit properly - external diameter is too small for a standard 1 1/8 FSA headset race. Absolute joke and total waste of my time and money. I should know better than to trust the staff in these shops. I measure more closely next time and buy from somewhere else online. Just wish I could get a refund...Date published: 2018-08-19Rated 1 out of 5 by RubbishBearings from Didn't fit These were bought to replace headset bearings in a Boardman road sport but did not fit. The bearing cage was approx 1mm too small to fit over the crown race properly.Date published: 2018-04-17Rated 5 out of 5 by PSmith from GT Averlance 3.0 (approx 2005) My headetset was grinding and sticking from no maintenance over the 10+ years use - bad me! I really need a complete new headset as the bearing surfaces are not perfect, but this was great as a quick change without the extra time with the bike off road to remove and then find the right size for a complete swap. Without a perfect bearing surface I don't expect to get long term use, but that's my fault and not the fault of this item. Ref grease, tube was full and was enough for both bearings.Date published: 2017-04-23Rated 1 out of 5 by BearingsPoor from Flimsy As other reviews said, these are very flimsy. Used to replace a very worn and rusty looking one from the bottom part of the headset. They didn't fit flush so on refit gave clean then more grease which bent the it slightly and dropped a bearing. Straightening up dropped another bearing. Cheap but it also means I'll be buying twice as even if I did get back in I'm not trusting them to last long.Date published: 2016-08-29Rated 1 out of 5 by Scoli from Wot no grease!?! Bearings are fine but the grease that came with them was almost non existant. Went to lube the bearing before fitting and as I squeezed the tube, nothing came out but air until I got to very end of it - see pic. Yes, I know I can buy more grease but I shouldn't have to and the bearings are useless without it.Date published: 2016-05-07Rated 1 out of 5 by Whizz12390 from "Standard headset" they told me... I needed to replace my lower headset on my road bike. I asked the 'helpful' staff at halfords if they were standard fit. They said "yes", so I purchased 2 sets of the product mentioned above. Problem solved? You're joking! The bearing did not fit my bike and they are not standard by a long chalk!! In the end I paid someone to come and service my bike. I asked if he would like the spare set to use on another bike that he may repair in the future and he (a very good bike mechanic) didn't even want them. So...headset bearing are not standard and don't ask halfords staff for advice. If you have to go to halfords do your homework first.Date published: 2015-02-12Rated 5 out of 5 by chookakoo from cheaper than a full headset Great product, saved me lot of £££. No my hesdet is like new and it costed me less than a fiver. Quite handy to have the grease too.Date published: 2014-09-04Rated 5 out of 5 by NGCP from Not suitable but Halfords refunded The Assistant was very knowlegable and was honest! He said it wouldn't fit the bike and gave a full refund.Date published: 2014-01-06
