  • Carrera Vulcan E Electric Mountain Bike – 16”, 18”, 20”, 22” Frames

Make light work of mountains with the Carrera Vulcan E Electric Mountain Bike. If you’re looking for effortless electric riding, on and off road, the Vulcan E is an outstanding option.

The 417Wh battery will give you up to 50 miles of electric pedal power – perfect to get you over those peaks. And when you’re back after riding, a charge time of 6 hours means the Vulcan E will be ready to go again in no time. Power is delivered by a rear hub motor with torque sensor, for smooth and responsive assistance when you need it. As standard on all Carrera E-bikes, the Vulcan comes with an integrated smart control system that protects the battery from overheating, short circuiting or overcharging. The battery re-charges in just 6 hours, and comes with a full 2-year / 500 charge warranty.

The electric motor of the Carrera Vulcan is controlled via full LCD Suntour Head Unit. The detachable head unit allows you to choose from one of 4 assistance modes, depending on the level of support you require. The unit also allows the user to view additional data such as Speed and Mileage to provide additional data whilst riding.  The display is located centrally, directly below the line of vision whilst riding, allowing you to keep your attention on the trail.
Add in a lightweight aluminium frame plus 9-speed Shimano Altus gears and you’ve got a bike that offers seamless climbing. For the descents, there’s the Vulcan E’s strong hydraulic disc brakes. A Suntour Suspension fork with 120mm of travel allows you to tackle trails with ease, while double wall alloy rims and Kenda tyres provide excellent grip on the ride down.

With a large battery capacity of 417Wh / 11.58Ah and a range of up to 50miles per charge the Vulcan is very capable of going the distance. With a frame-mounted battery on the Vulcan E’s down-tube, weight is balanced against the rear mounted hub motor providing an improved ride quality, over those with rear-mounted batteries.

    Battery Rating

The Carrera Vulcan E is built around a fantastic Suntour rear hub electric motor system, seamlessly integrated into the rear wheel, providing improved traction and controlled handling.

    Motor Rating

The power control in the system is delivered courtesy of a premium Torque sensor, which gradually eases the power in and out in response to your input, providing a natural ride characteristic and a real reason to upgrade from more basic speed sensor systems. The quality of the Torque sensor is really notable when accelerating out of corners and make small, or when making tighter intricate manoeuvres.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First ever New Bike let alone an e Bike Wow. Hopefully you are reading this as like me you are thinking of buying an E Bike. It’s hard isn’t it. Firstly, justifying the cost and secondly what type, model etc to go for I am 53 years old, and my primary purpose was to buy a bike to help me get fit, the odd commute to work (5miles along canal) and to have an enjoyable cycling experience. I took advantage of trying both the Crossfire and Vulcan on the 1/2 hour test drive and I also took out the Crossfire for a 48hour trial (The Vulcan is not available on the 48 :( Can I start by saying to take advantage of these trials. The first thing it did was to convince me I wanted an e bike. As a non cyclist I rode the Crossfile for 20 miles on the first day of the 48hr trial - it was easy and enjoyable. What I did notice is that it was Great on the road, Good on the canal path, and OK on slightly more bumpy terrain (Yiou could feel the bumps through your body). Hiwever, was a pure delight to know you would not have to struggle with the Hills etc I went to other local shops like Giant and Tredz and whilst their bikes look and feel great as well, there is no getting away from it they are a lot more expensive Anyway back to Halford and another test drive on the Vulcan convinced me that it was the Mountain Bike I wanted. Good on the Road, Very Good on the Canal and V Good on the bumpy Terrain. For me to have an alround bike and allow me to have fun as well then this as “my” preference In fact If I was looking for an e bike for commuting only then I would really have also considered the Carerra CrossPath. It has a much Better Bosch Motor and Central Hub Anyway I purchased the Mountain Bike via the Cycle to work scheme. I picked it up today and like a child at Christmas I couldn’t wait to ride it. The Halfords shop where I live in Neath, South Wales were fantastic. I will be sending in a compliment as their service was 1st class. I added a new seat, some mud guards, lights and a stand - signed some papers and I was away to go I went straight out onto the canal and county park. Wow. I travelled 10 miles, mostly in Eco and Tour, used 1 bar (25%) of battery and did not want to get off. Hopefully, I will continue to get the same buzz every time I take it out. Sorry for the length of review. However, I wanted to make sure that if you are like me and unsure, then hopefully this helps you a little

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First e-bike I got this as my first e-bike just over a year ago for my daily commute and it quickly became my primary mode of transport. We had a few teething problems with one of the sensors on the main crank but Halfords remedied the issues quickly and without any hesitation or complaint. Beyond that could not fault this bike at all as I always got a good range out of the battery, never the full 40 miles because I'm a larger lad and I enjoyed the higher settings but always enough to get me where I needed to get with maybe a bit of a detour. unfortunately unforeseen circumstances took it away from me but I will be getting a new one and would most definitely recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from i like it I have so far done about 800km. It has been excellent. I use eco around town and tour in the country. I get a good range from the battery. about 40 miles. got first class service from Halfords in Aberdeen knew nothing about e bikes but they were so patient and helpful. would recommend both the bike and Halfords. the disc brakes took a bit of getting used to at the beginning

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Excellent motor. Poor components Got this on cycle to work in Feb 18. Explained that cycling is my only transport and needed something robust and reliable. ( I did over 5000 miles on my Scott scale in 2017 ) work pattern and location rule out public transport so a good bike is vital. I was assured that this was the bike for me. Firstly after a couple of attempts by halfords ended taking it to my local mechanic to get gears properly sorted.Had back wheel trued at same time as it was off centre. Then right side pedal seized up. Sounded like a pirate ship in a gale. But I usually change the pedals anyway so hey ho not bovvered. Then the punctures started. Traced eventually to pinch on the sides. Only tyre that seems to have held is a Schwalbe big Ben plus ebike tyre....... so far. If you're a heavy rider ( I'm 94kgs and no slouch ) invest in decent tyres from the off. I do mainly cycle track with a little single track around hull when time permits. No power cut out on brake. I've done 1500 miles on this in 6 mnths and I'm on my 3rd set of rear pads. I accept extra weight and power will increase wear but I would think a power cut off would be a necessity. Current issues august 2018. Last couple of weeks a nasty thunk and plastic vibration has been coming from the crank. It's snapped a new kmc chain and has on occasion developed a mind if it's own. Stood talking to friend and the bike was trying to set off on its own? And no wasn't hitting the walk button by accident. Took it halfords St Andrews Quay there is play on bottom bracket and after reading a review from a guy in island i suspect something serious has snapped in torque sensor set up if the bottom bracket is fubar I'm told it'll cost me and also it's " only a std bottom bracket " Not happy about either fact. You can't put the power of a 250w motor through a cheap bottom bracket and I totally accept that wheels etc are mine to maintain but something as essential as the BB is considered subject to excessive use after 1500miles when my Scott has 6000 miles and not a squeak? The mechanic has tried placate me by saying it may just need nipping up. On the whole when this bike is working and puncture free it's a lot of fun and I really wish I could give it a good review. A great tool for keeping fit if used properly and have the right tyres. Fine if you want a toy you.might use on the odd occasion but if you need to rely on it. Don't bother. I maybe stuck with an expensive bike I can't afford to get fixed and no chance of getting something I can rely on until my cycle to work comes up next year at which point I will be going back to my local independent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic entry level e bike I have a 8 mile commute to work - not a lot I hear you shout - but it is a rather hilly route. I have been doing this on my road bike but when the cycle to work option came up I decided to try an e bike. I was considering either the Vulcan or the crossfire but I eventually went for the Vulcan purely for its versatility. I was not disappointed! The bike is superb in all conditions, I’ve taken it on a purpose built local mtb trail and it felt strong and dependable. The commuting has become much more leisurely now but I don’t use any other mode than ‘eco’ so I stil get a decent work out. On the flat and downhill I turn the power off which helps save battery power but trying to pedal on an incline with no power is not such a good idea! I have had a couple of cut outs but a simple reset and it’s up and running again. (Had to give 4 stars on performance due to this) I’ve owned the bike for 3 weeks and haven’t used my car for anything, it really does give you the motivation to cycle everywhere. I can already tell my fitness is improving and my weight is starting to drop. The battery power is good not quite as much as stated but that depends heavily on conditions ie rider weight, his hard you ride and what setting you are in. I would definitely recommend this bike if you are considering your first e bike. (See my YouTube video - carrera Vulcan e bike longshaw to fulwood )
