SKS Bluemels Olympic Racer Mudguard Set - Matt Black - 700c x 45mm is rated out of 5 by 41.Rated 5 out of 5 by PeteTheVan10 from 400 miles and still going strong. I bought a new bike and the old guards wouldn't fit. My local Halfords had the thinner 35mm ones and it was clear that they wouldn't fit around my 32mm tyre with enough clearance to give you the confidence that they would stop any water being thrown off. I ordered these 45mm ones on line and they arrived the next day, The instructions are multi-lingual and the pictures are separated (on other pages) from the English words making referral entertaining. They are line drawings too which makes visualisation tricky. There are a thousand pieces in the package and it takes a while to work out which bit goes where. There are also extra bolts (of differing lengths) and several packing pieces - some of which you may not need. If you have OCD, this is a challenge. One you've worked out how the fittings work then it all becomes crystal clear and you wonder why you thought it was hard. The only challenge is cutting the stays down to the correct length afterwards. It also took a while to work out how the plastic end stops fitted. I had a similar pair (not the same make) previously and they split - I worked out this was because I had too much tension in the plastic. My advice is to fit the guards to the bike and then offer up the stays to the guards - DO NOT force the guards to meet the stays, move/flex/bend/adjust the stays to the guards instead. If the gap (front to back) between the tyre and the guard isn't uniform (which is likely), don't try and flex the guards too much. I have just cycled to Paris with no issues at all and they are as good as new.Date published: 2018-05-10Rated 4 out of 5 by Lemony111 from Mudguards fitting These mudguards are very good quality and come with a good choice of nuts and bolts to mount on your bike. But as is usual with any mudguards, then some fittings just can't be supplied for the numerous different types of mountings on bikes. As was the case for me with my bike, a Cube Cross. Luckily I had some small right angled brackets from a old kitchen fitting kit that I could use to mount the front mudguard to the front forks. Also I needed a different sized bolt than any of the ones supplied. Mudguards are a nightmare to fit? And allow a couple of hours to fit these guards. Once fitted though. They are really good guards which almost all the road grime from you, and also your bike. Really good long length on these guards. Keeps a lot of wheel spray from riders following you as well. I have since purchased more of these guards for another bike.Date published: 2018-05-02Rated 5 out of 5 by polymath from Great product - take your time to fit Excellent product, came packaged in the biggest box imaginable so well protected. Great matt appearance which matches my Marin 29er nicely. You need to be prepared to take your time fitting, I did a full prefit with some careful marking before removal, cutting, and then final fitting. The back wheel had to come out to fit the rear guard. It was just my luck that the crown wheel changer mechanism located at the bottom-rear of the frame vertical tube fouled the prospective location of the rear guard. My action (which has certainly voided any guarantee!) was to cut a square hole in the guard to allow the mechanism to clear it and permit the bottom fixing of the guard to be screwed into the frame. The rear nearside front support wire (which is nice stainless) had to be double dog-leg bent to clear the disc brake caliper, but otherwise fitted these big wheels just fine. I used a spacer (supplied) each side of the front forks to clear the front caliper and balance both sides of the fitting. The moaners about needing to cut the wires strike me as odd, its just this flexibility that ensures everyone can get a good fit, and the emergency breakaway design of the front supports wasn't even mentioned in the specification, but is an excellent idea. Bag of fixings held more than enough choice and was a pleasant find when so many other purchases only contain the bare minimum. I've got some useful stuff left over. Trainers stay clean and no stripe up the back! Excellent value for money and good service at the store pickup. Not their fault that the predicted delivery date was overambitious (like 2 days before actual arrival).Date published: 2018-04-08Rated 5 out of 5 by Elfboot100 from Best there is Great mudguards, they take a while to fit and make perfect. An angle grinder is handy to cutting the stays. Good overall coverage in large size but also check fork clearance.Date published: 2018-03-30Rated 3 out of 5 by MalcolmN from Challenging! If your bike has the right lugs and V Brakes you will be in luck. If, like mine, it has disc brakes, be prepared to take your time! The instructions are very limited and the pictures only tell half the story. There are some spacers included to use with disc brakes so the stays can clear the Calipers, they say to use a max of four but the screws supplied only allow you to use three... Even then I had to bend the stays so they cleared the calipers. So the stays are different on the left compared to the right hand side. No big deal, I can live with it. The stays are stainless steel but the screws supplied are only plated. The stays have to be cut to length and are very hard. I used a Dremel with a grinding wheel which did the job. On the plus sided the mudguards are light weight and just about cover my 700x42 rear tyre.Date published: 2017-12-03Rated 4 out of 5 by Andy249 from Good BUT They were a tight fit under my rear caliper. The plastic bridge bracket that came with the guards was too big, I had to make one my self from a thin sheet of aluminium. I might have returned them but I had already fitted the front. The instructions show a thin metal bracket, obviously the plastic one is an ill thought out later modification. It would have been better to provide both types of bracket. Otherwise seem sturdey and look good. Huddersfield BikerDate published: 2017-12-01Rated 5 out of 5 by Sneckie from Really good mudguards As others have said, takes about an hour to fit but we'll worth it - really nice fit with no rattles or creaks when cycling. Once initially fitted, mark stays where to cut and once refitted, the plastic clips stop the stays from snagging anything and finish off the look. Work 100% to keep you dry and look really good on bike, all for a good price.Date published: 2017-11-23Rated 4 out of 5 by smokinggoldfish from Give yourself time to fit these! These are good quality mudguards, with nice fittings. But they take a long time to fit. The little bolts for the stays are neat, but tricky to assemble, you really need three hands. The guards have to be put in place roughly first, then the stays have to be taken off to be trimmed, and finally you can fit them. The rear wheel has to be taken off to fit the lower bolt in place. The plastic covers that go over the cut ends of the stays are quite difficult to push on. I thought this job would take 20 minutes, but it was over an hour in the end. Probably a lot quicker with two people. But now they are fitted I am happy with them.Date published: 2017-09-24
