Nissens Radiator

The majority of contemporary cars use aluminum radiators, which are constructed by bonding thin aluminum fins to flattened aluminum tubes. Coolant travels from the inlet to the outlet via numerous tubes arranged in a parallel configuration. The fins efficiently transfer heat from the tubes and transfer it to the air passing through the radiator.

Often, the tubes are equipped with a device known as a turbulator, designed to enhance the fluid's turbulence as it passes through the tubes. Without such turbulence, in cases where the fluid flows smoothly, only the part of the fluid in direct contact with the tubes would receive direct cooling. The heat transferred from the fluid within the tubes to the tubes themselves relies on the temperature difference between the tube and the adjacent fluid. If the fluid near the tube cools rapidly, the heat transfer is reduced. Introducing turbulence within the tube promotes mixing of the entire fluid, thereby maintaining a higher temperature for the fluid adjacent to the tubes. This, in turn, allows for more effective heat extraction from the fluid within the tube.

Some radiators feature a tank on each side, each containing a transmission cooler. This transmission cooler functions akin to a miniature radiator nestled within the main radiator. Instead of dissipating heat to the air, it exchanges heat with the coolant present in the primary radiator.
