Halfords Exclusive

Take your indoor training to the next level with the Elite Zumo Smart Interactive Turbo Trainer. As part of Halfords’ exclusive Elite turbo trainer range, every unit is quality checked before leaving the factory. Meaning the Zumo is a high-performing, reliable trainer, in keeping with the high standards expected of the Elite brand.

Performance is guaranteed thanks to technology unique amongst Elite trainers. This includes algorithms that are used to calculate power and a function called Power Meter Link, which allows you to use your power meter as the power source. This makes the Zumo extremely accurate and lets you match your power readings to your outdoor power data, for consistent training.

Affordable Direct-drive Trainer

So you've wanted a direct-drive, wheel-off trainer but have been scared away by the high price tag?

Powerful, quiet, and efficient, the Elite Zumo combines all the advantages of an interactive direct-drive trainer into an affordable package. Meaning you benefit from increased accuracy and higher resistance levels compared to the wheel-on equivalents.

As a result, whether you’re an amateur or seasoned pro, the Zumo will make indoor cycling a productive and fun adventure that mimics the real road and offers real results.

The Elite Zumo is part of a new generation of interactive home trainers compatible with your PC, tablet, and phone. It supports iOS, Android, MacOS and Windows, and connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or Ant+ so that you can enjoy the most popular training software.

The numerous compatible apps include My E-Training, Zwift, TrainerRoad, Sufferfest, Kinomap, FulGaz, Rouvy, VirtuGo, RoadGrandTours and Bikevo. The Zumo even comes with a free 12-month subscription to Elite’s My E-Training software, which features a wide range of training and test modes suitable for all levels of cycling ability.

Although there’s no hard and fast rule for how long an indoor training session should last, we would generally advise that anything up to two hours is the limit.

This is because you work harder on a turbo trainer than when riding outdoors, as there are no downhill sections to recover. Instead you’re putting effort in the whole time. Plus, your riding position is more rigid when on a turbo trainer, meaning you’re working the same muscle groups for extended periods of time.

It is more important to create shorter, high-quality training sessions than longer ones. When it comes to turbo trainers, it’s a matter of quality over quantity.

The key to improving your average speed on an indoor bike is creating an effective training plan. Make sure that each session is high quality, as you want to avoid the indoor training equivalent of ‘junk miles’, where you’re training sessions are ineffective and don’t lead to improvements.
There are plenty of apps and pre-designed sessions you can use to ensure you’re maximising your training. Once training to a plan, you’ll gradually see your average speed increase.
