How to pack a roof box with Thule and Halfords

A roof box is the perfect way to unlock extra space for holidays, camping trips and family adventures, giving you more room for the things that matter.

In this video, we've teamed up with Thule to share our top roof box packing tips, helping you maximise every inch of space, pack more efficiently, and travel safely.

Here’s a summary below:

Step 1: Choose what goes in the roof box

Keep heavier items inside the car and use the roof box for lighter, bulkier belongings, such as:

  • Sleeping bags
  • Camping equipment
  • Outdoor clothing
  • Sports kit
  • Coats and soft luggage

Before packing, check the maximum weight limits for your roof box, roof bars and vehicle. This information can be found in the relevant manuals.

Step 2: Pack evenly and efficiently

Place heavier items towards the centre of the roof box and spread the weight evenly from side to side. Pack larger items first, then fill the gaps with softer bags, coats and smaller essentials.

Step 3: Secure your belongings

Use the internal fixing straps to prevent luggage from moving around the box while you’re driving. Before closing the lid, check that nothing is sticking up or interfering with the locking mechanism.

Finally, make sure the roof box is securely attached, locked and properly closed, with nothing poking out of the sides. Then, give it a gentle shake to confirm everything is secure before setting off.

You can find a wide range of Thule and Halfords roof boxes, roof bars and travel accessories to help you make more room for every journey.
