Halfords Wheel Paint Silver 400ml

Temperature resistant to 110°C once fully hardened.
Can also be used to paint plastic wheel trims (using a plastic primer first)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
A safety ring is fitted to prevent accidental spraying. Remove nozzle and remove the coloured ring with a blunt screwdriver ensuring you do not damage the metal valve. Face the spray head away from you and replace nozzle. (CAUTION: Paint may spray out of the nozzle)
Refer to the icons for quick instructions, working temperature, drying times etc.
For best results ensure the can is at room temperature before use.
Avoid spraying in direct sunshine, cold, damp, humid or windy weather.
Recommended ambient temperature whilst painting +10° to +25°C.
After use, turn the can upside down and spray for around 3-5 seconds to clear the nozzle and prevent blockages when used next.
Ensure you read the complete instructions and familiarise yourself with each step.
Ensure you have all consumables needed to hand before starting the process.

For best results safely jack up the vehicle, support it on axle stands and remove the wheels. If in doubt, ask a suitably competent person to do this for you. If painting wheels on the vehicle, every effort should be made to mask off all surrounding areas, Tyres and vehicle components as paint could cause damage to these. Inspect the wheel fully for any serious damage, if unsure consult a qualified vehicle technician to ensure the wheel is safe before begining the repair.

Preparing for Primer
Fully clean the wheel using a strong wheel cleaner to remove all baked in dirt grease and brake dust. Ensure the tyre and wheel are completely free from any tyre shine products as this will mean the paint will not adhere correctly.
Dry the wheel fully then use a surface cleaner/ degreaser to remove any remaining chemicals or silicones.
Ensure that the surface to be painted is solid, corrosion free and smooth.
If it is not, start by repairing any damage by suitable means, filling and sanding the area with the correct dry sanding abrasives if required. Working up in stages from P180, P320 to a final P500 sand to remove the previous sanding marks in that process.
Once the area is fully prepared, take a tack cloth and remove any dust and contaminants on the panel. With a quality masking tape, mask off the tyre, valve and the wheel face that sits against the brake disc. Caution: Painting this face can result in wheel wobble at speed, reduced handling and increased tyre wear. If removing any wheel weights, ensure that once completed the wheels are re-balanced at a professional garage before use.

Priming
***When painting onto plastic wheel trims, a plastic adhesion promoting primer must be used before priming.***
Shake the primer for 2 minutes once the agitator ball inside is heard and apply a first thin “dust” coat to give best possible adhesion. Holding the can around 25-30cm from the wheel, paint the gaps between the spokes and hard to reach areas first ensuring not to apply to much paint in any one area which will cause the paint to run. Then paint the barrel, rear of the spokes and finally the face of the wheel.
Allowing time in-between coats, slowly build up the layers of paint until a uniform thickness and coverage is achieved (2-3 coats).

Preparing for colour paint
Once the primer is fully cured, sand any imperfections smooth using dry P500/ P600 and then P800.
Take a tack cloth and remove any dust and contaminants on the panel.

Wheel Colour Painting
Shake the can for 2 minutes once the agitator ball inside is heard to ensure the contents are fully mixed and will give the best possible colour match. Test the paint colour to ensure it is correct. Apply a first thin “dust” coat to give best possible adhesion to the primer.

Follow the same steps as painting primer. Allowing time in-between coats, slowly build up the layers of paint until a uniform thickness and coverage is achieved (2-3 coats).

Allow paint to completely dry following the time guidance on the can. If desired, a clear lacquer can be applied to provide even greater protection and gloss to the wheel.

CAUTIONS
*The drying time can change depending on the ambient temperature, humidity and the thickness of the coats applied. Ensure the paint is fully dry before moving onto the next stage.
Take care when preparing older paint surfaces (Pre 1970) as these may contain harmful Lead.
Ensure ventilation is adequate in the area you are painting in to prevent harmful build-up of solvent gasses.
