Additional InformationIt is a characteristic of PU lacquers that they may cause yellowing over white paint. It is therefore recommended that a maximum of 2 coats are used for white finishes. Followed the instructions to a tee but after 1 day of driving in rain and bits are peeling off already. It's soul destroying as I spent a whole 2 weekends sanding painting and waiting for this to be the outcome. Just not good enough. Do not buy.Date published: 2018-06-20Rated 5 out of 5 by shepherdmg from Great guitar finish A lot of reviewers complain about this PU peeling off their wheels, I suspect it has to do with the surface not being prepared properly to provide a proper key for the clear coat. If the wheels are smooth, this will just peel off. I would suggest sanding lightly with 400 grit sandpaper. Peeling will also happen if there is water ingress through any uneven edges. I've used this for the clear coat on an electric bass guitar project and the results are fantastic. Very hard finish once cured, easy to sand flat and easy to polish to a great shine because of the hardness. I would recommend a month of curing to make absolutely sure that it is completely dry.Date published: 2018-03-10Rated 1 out of 5 by Brianw1978 from This stuff is useless I recently refurbed the alloys on my Octavia VRS and used Halfolds Audi silver to paint them. I then (following the prep instructions exactly) game them 3 coats of this lacquer. Looked good initially although it did darken the finished colour a bit. I left the wheels off the car for around 3 weeks and ran on my winter rims to allow time to dry fully before refitting. First wash and this stuff flaked off in great bit strips!! Unfortunately I had painted / lacquered the insides of the wheels as well so I was left with the balancing weights lying on the driveway still attached to the flaked lacquer. I honestly do not know how Halfolds can still sell this stuff - especially as it specifically states it's good for wheels. I wished I had read the reviews before buying this as I now have to redo all 4 wheels as well as pay for balancing again. Complete waste of time and money!Date published: 2017-08-19Rated 1 out of 5 by lynd47 from aviod at all costs used this lacquer on my refurbisned wheels. followed the instructions to the letter then one week later just before i was about to fit them back on my car i washed them down with a hosepipe ( no detergent) only to see the lacquer peel off with ease. do not buy under any circumstance. a complete wast of time and money !!!!Date published: 2017-06-15Rated 1 out of 5 by jombob22gs from waste of money. Peeled off after after 2 days. No more to be said. Do not waste your money with this.Date published: 2017-03-25Rated 1 out of 5 by gdc1982 from What a waste of my time, and MONEY!!!!!!!!! To start with the lacquer went on the alloy wheels with little problems, apart from the odd run. Goes a bit yellow etc, don't touch it or mess with it at all. After 4 weeks stripping, priming, repainting and applying lacquer my alloy wheels looked amazing.....or so i thought. After three to four weeks the lacquer just peeled off with relative ease...i thought i must have done something wrong on that one alloy wheel. Nope, with a few days another wheel went the same way. The remaining two alloy wheels are showing signs that the lacquer is lifting away. I wish i had read the reviews before buying. According to my car body repair shop, the instructions on the tin are incorrect, do not wait 24 hours for the colour coat to dry. If you do this the lacquer will have nothing to stick too. The halfords colour paint is grand, no problems there. Avoid this lacquer, do not use, you have been warned. I am so disappointed that all my time has been wasted. Hope this is of some help to all you halfords shoppers.Date published: 2017-01-16Rated 1 out of 5 by Skram35 from Waste of money Poor lacquer. Having used halfords normal lacquer doing my bike frames before and didn't have an issue, thought I'd get this instead whilst standing I. The shop. I wish I had read the reviews. Having had to flat back repair base colour I found the base colour (halfords paint) reacted with the lacquer as soon as I started painting. Had to leave to harden and flat back, got rid of the crazing, but still minor lines. Lacquered over repair and all wa ok, but it dulls the colour a stated on the lid, now can see the repair. Another part of bike had a notticable lacquer lift! This bike is still in my workshop not even started build up and when you notice it starts to peel off like skin. Managed to peel back to a defined edge and blow in again, but this time using u-pol lacquer that I had sitting on my shelf for 2 years. Next night checked and there was no roughness or the need to polish to get a smooth finish. Picture is lacquer over ford Monza blue, over etch. All rattle cans, all halfords supplied paints. Took second can back to halfords as unused.Date published: 2016-12-13Rated 1 out of 5 by JimmyLId from Rubbish Very 'thin' out of the can ... Therefore prone to drips and sagging. If you use this stuff spray from further away and go very lightly. I had drips which I sanded back, but went a bit far so had to touch up with more base. The slightest contact with the clear gave the dreaded reaction. Took me hours to rectify. During this process I noticed that the in places the clear was peeling off all to easily. Adhesion / compatibility with other paint is definitely an issue. I think though after maybe 3 or 4 days the clear with fully cure and adhesion should be better??Date published: 2016-07-15
