features & benefits of Halfords Petrol Resistant Lacquer
- Provides a tough, durable gloss protective finish which is petrol resistant
- Suitable for use with all acrylic paints
- Ideal for motorcycle petrol tanks
Please note: Petrol splashes or spillages should be wiped off immediately. The lacquer should be allowed to fully harden which will take at least 2 weeks, before using rubbing compound on overspray or to blend into existing paintwork.
Additional InformationIt is a characteristic of petrol resistant lacquers that they may cause yellowing over white paint. It is therefore recommended that a maximum of 2 coats are used for white finishes. If a deeper gloss is required, spray two light coats of Universal Clear Lacquer (324905) on paint work, allow to fully dry then overcoat with two light coats of Petrol Resistant Lacquer.
Halfords Petrol Resistant Lacquer 300ml is rated out of 5 by 16.Rated 1 out of 5 by jack890 from Worst product I have ever used Worst product I have ever used. 2 coats went on but the third coat dried far too fast and cracked up. Rubbed the tank down and started all over and it did the same a second time. Cost me around 40 man hours to rectify. The spraying temps were not too high its appears the third coat just gets soaked up far to fast and cracks up.Date published: 2018-06-22Rated 1 out of 5 by keef666 from Borg: Resistance is futile Took a week off work so i could fill a dent in my motorcycle tank, did all the rubbing down, filling, rubbing down etc etc Did a number of coats of primmer and then the top coat, it was looking good, allowed 24 hours before applying the Lacquer and had it warming in hot water, shook it up for a few mintues and sprayed the tank, fifteeen mins later did another coat. I left the tank to dry in a warm room for around four days, but the time was up i have to use the bike for work, i was down on fuel so quick stop at petrol station, i splashed petrol on the tank and watched the lacquer melt before my eyes. Now i know it said on the tin allow two weeks but even after four days there should be some resistance not just melt like that! Not a Happy Bunny knowing got to do it all over again and money wastedDate published: 2018-03-05Rated 1 out of 5 by dave556 from made the piant tacky i used for a mud gaurd and followed the instruction on the can. the paint was perfect until i put this on it. i though it would just help protect the piant from oil and splash. instead it lifted the piant from the serface i p[ianted and worst it made it go tacky which made it a pian to remove and now i have to sart all over agian. my advice do not use this stuff no matter what.Date published: 2017-09-29Rated 1 out of 5 by Woodie211 from Melted paint/ ruined my vehicle paint I used this to cover some paint on my motorcycle. despite following the instructions and ensuring that all the products used were Halfords branded, the Petrol Resistant Lacquer caused the already finished and prepared paintwork to melt and run. when I complained to your customer Service department I was plainly informed that I had used the product wrong. IF there is a possibility of this product causing the underlying paint to melt and run as apparently this is necessary for the paint to adhere to the underlying layer than I put it that this product is not fit for purpose. in order to cover the colour coat adequately the lacquer has to be applied in quantities that causes damage. Additionally, even the light coats applied has discoloured the underlying silver paint. Your "Customer Service" were offhand and not interested in attempting to help rather than apportion blame. NOT a product I would recommend to anybody.Date published: 2017-04-18Rated 1 out of 5 by gsxr1100WP from don't buy it Thanks to all the other reviews I'm not going to use this product, saved a lot of time, money and grief. Why do Halfords still sell this stuff?Date published: 2016-11-12Rated 4 out of 5 by Triumphtigger from It does work I tried a can of this without success, and I binned it. Determined to crack the problem I discovered (with a new can) that it does not work if the spray can is cold! Stand the can in HOT water for about 15 minutes and then shake it for 2 minutes. Spray on a handheld board or cloth to check that the spray is good and that you are pressing the button correctly (the stuff is thicker than normal paint and incorrect finger position will cause spatter). Work quickly, moving from the cloth or board WITHOUT TAKING YOUR FINGER OFF THE BUTTON. Now I'm not going to put petrol anywhere near my bike tank for about 4 weeks. NOTE: My tank is not white. It is pastel green and has not discoloured at all.Date published: 2015-08-02Rated 3 out of 5 by carsbelfast1 from Halfords Petrol Resistant Lacquer This product likes to clog the spray jet and splutters.Job was going great this product spoilt the job had to rub down and start again used another manufactures product that was far betterDate published: 2014-09-18Rated 1 out of 5 by unhappypainter from Not what it says on the tin After spending countless hours preparing, priming and spraying my motorcycle tank i choose this as the top coat. Followed the directions on the can applied three coats with correct time between coats, it does not spray well leaving a heavy orange peel finish. Left it to cure for weeks before using cutting compound to achieve a decent finish. Again left for weeks before final assembley to bike and first time it came in to contact with petrol didn't have chance to wipe off the spill before it ate through the paint. Please risk your paint job with this product.Date published: 2013-04-16
