Universal Multigrip Snow Socks Medium is rated out of 5 by 23.Rated 4 out of 5 by Stevier4a from First time trying these gizmos Bought these today after the beast and emma brought central Scotland to a halt. I've considered myself a very good driver in the snow as I've had lots of experience around the world. Anyways, our street has and incline to get out onto the main road and my garage in on an incline also, though digging out most of the snow the continuing showers negated all the work and my car was parked outside the house on the street which along with other cars caused problems for any cars sliding/skidding about. The gritters wouldn't be down our road for days as the main concern is the primary roads so I thought about winter tyres ,chains or socks. Didn't fancy tyres as it would mean changing over wheels or buying a two to sit in my garage, chains I thought may damage the alloys and also have to be removed over tarmac so bought the socks. Quick to fit and remove fitted the bill also relatively easy to do, but would they work? Fitted this morning after about 5 mins and a skinned knuckle, turning opposite lock when stretching over wheel helped due to low arch clearance then drive about a foot to fit remainder. Once on I drove over hard packed snow and up the inclines as though the snow wasn't there! They really did work for me and as soon as I hit tarmac I removed them so as not to damage them so haven't driven them long distance. I am always wary of products that state how fantastic they are but these snow socks have worked for me but time will tell regarding longevity but so far for the money I'm satisfied going on impressed. By the way I drive a New Fiesta so maybe heavier cars take there toll on the fabric as I've seen on another review. Monday morning commute to work should be straight forward.Date published: 2018-03-03Rated 2 out of 5 by yeovil2l3l18 from not as fun as they look! ive had 4 sets of snow socks over 15yrs and 3 cars. This was my worst experience to date. this latest design, with mesh sections (designed to stretch and make fitting easier i believe) has really compromised quality beyond belief. each sock now has 6 adjoining overlaps of material around its circumference instead of 1 on the origional design... and that speaks for itself. 10 miles on 3" of fresh snow, on level ground, saw mine 'fall apart' at 30mph, and as i was on a duelled road I could not even legally stop and pick it up so I could return it for a refund. Needless to say not a happy bunny!. My advise to halfords would be ditch this design in favor of the older less flashy ones that retail at 2/3s the price and have less joins ;. big heavy deisel engines on this design of sock doesn't work. i would only advise the public to buy this particular sock if they're car is small and light, i have in the past had over 100 miles from another sock brand, in a far smaller car than I used today with this sock.Date published: 2018-03-02Rated 4 out of 5 by SnowMini from Become a 4by4 I bought a pairs of these when bad weather was forecast. Needed to travel across the Cotswolds and I know snow gets bad. Fitted them on easy in about 5 minutes checked secure fit going backwards and forwards and they are fantastic. You should not go above 40mph and you have to remember this as the traction is superb. I used to have snow tyres but these are just as good. Turned my mini into a snowmobile got home from Oxford to Cheltenham not a problem and drove through serious snow last night. I don't advise this but had to get where I was going. I will always carry a set of these. Love them!!!Date published: 2018-03-02Rated 3 out of 5 by gec1 from Easier than Snow Chains On last years ski trip I hired a car and snow chains. It was a nightmare figuring out how to fit them on even after a couple of trial runs, and even more difficult to fit the chains in the snow at the side of the road. After reading reviews of these snow socks, they sounded ideal. Again, this year we had to stop and fit these due to terrible road conditions on the way to the resort. We had again carried out a trial run prior to leaving for the resort. They were a bit fiddly to fit at first, but after a couple of attempts we got the hang of it. When we had to fit them on the snow covered road, we had them on in about 2-3 minutes and spent another few minutes backwards and forwards checking that they had centralised on the wheels - which they did perfectly. I kept to the 40KPH limit which was more than fast enough as we overtook quite a few people going a lot slower. They gripped perfectly and we did not have any steering / slipping issues at all. However, the only dissapointment is that when we removed them, which is a bit harder than fitting them, we noticed that one of them has a tear in the side wall. We han't driven on any bare tarmac other than the odd very small bare patches in the snow covered road. So I am concerened that they will break completely during our next trip. I had bought 2 pairs in case of this eventuality, but if we are only going to get one trip out of them it is an expensive option.Date published: 2015-02-23Rated 2 out of 5 by Batley from ok but easily damaged The socks were fairly easy to put on and are probably good in town environments. We used them in a very rural area and the conditions were too bad for them to make much difference. They shredded in places where the wheel spun even in snow. So overall very disappointedDate published: 2015-02-11Rated 5 out of 5 by Happysnowsock from fantastic product Highly recommended. These snow socks have been perfect in the recent bad weather, enabling me to drive safely down country roads. They were initially difficult to fit but once I mastered the technique I could fit and remove relatively quickly.Date published: 2015-02-06Rated 5 out of 5 by Feebster69 from JUST THE JOB FOR WINTER DRIVING Quick and easy to fit; should be just what you need for winter driving.Date published: 2013-11-27Rated 5 out of 5 by TimoR from Ace snow socks I recently went to Andorra skiing taking a hire car from Barcelona airport. As soon as we started climbing up the mountain, the snow started. I pulled over, popped on my snow socks, and away I went. Many others were stranded. A fantastic alternative to snow chains which look like a menza pussle at the best of times (not least when you are cold and at the side of a mountain road in the dark!). These come highly recommended. I bought 3 sizes as I wasn't sure what size my hire car tyres would be. The unused sets I returned to halfords and they were fine about it.Date published: 2013-03-13
