The name Grand Prix has become a brand of its own in cycling circles worldwide. This is the tyre from which the famous GP5000 originated. The Grand Prix now sits below the GP5000 in the range, at a different price point, offering a 180 tpi casing, Poly-X anti puncture technology and a Black Chili Compound. All of these components ensure that cyclists using the Grand Prix can be sure of race winning technology.

With options in 25mm and 28mm as well as 23mm, the Grand Prix focusses on comfort and reliability, ideal for long yet fast days in the saddle.

PolyX Breaker:

With PolyX Breaker™ car expertise comes to the bicycle tyre sector. Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tyres and has proved extremely effective. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswise. A very high fabric density is achieved which makes the breaker resistant not only to foreign bodies, but especially to punctures. The rolling resistance is not affected by this breaker.

Black Chili Compound:

The rolling properties of the rubber compound of a tyre are primarily determined by three interacting factors - stiction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage [longevity]. The dilemma: If you improve any of these factors it can have a detrimental effect on at least one of the others. A tyre with maximum grip wears quicker and rolls more slowly. If you then make a tyre roll faster and more durable, grip, in turn, is reduced.

With our Black Chili compound, a tread compound which is always based on the latest knowledge of polymers and raw material research, we have supplied the cycling industry with an enduring solution. Depending on the application of a tyre, we adjust the compound formulation for the specific discipline - for road or mountain biking, time trialling or downhill racing.

How does that work? For Black Chili we refine special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to high-performance tread mixtures. To these mixtures we then add soot particles, which in turn are optimised in shape and surface properties.
