The Ikon is a lightweight cross-country racing and MTB tyre designed for speed and reliability in a wide range of conditions.
**Technology -
Tubleess:**
Tubeless tyres provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tyre; and less chance of flatting because there is no tube.
Puncture Protection:
An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tyres. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tyre remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.
Compounds:
Above all, Maxxis is known for the quality and performance of its rubber compounds. Rubber compounds
are tailored to meet the needs of specific riding disciplines or conditions. Maxxis can produce tyres with
one, two or three individual rubber compounds depending on the intended application. The Ikon is available in a choice of compounds:
Dual Compound:
Two distinct rubber compounds are used within the tread to offer a balance between rolling resistance and grip.
Triple Compound (3C):
Maxxis' 3C tyres use a firm base rubber to reduce rolling resistance and progressively softer rubber on outer layers to optimize traction. Maxxis offer three different triple compound options: 3C MaxxSpeed, 3C MaxxTerra and 3C MaxxGrip. The Ikon is available here with the 3C MaxxSpeed a fast-rolling formulation of our triple compound, best for XC racing applications.
Threads Per Inch (TPI):
The number of threads that cross through one square inch of a single ply of the tyre's casing. Lower TPI gives better puncture, cut and abrasion resistance but is heavier. Higher TPI conforms better to the terrain, offering a smoother, more comfortable ride while reducing the weight of the tyre. Maxxis uses 27, 60, 120 or 170 TPI casings depending on the application.
