About our range of car polishers

Over time the world can punish the paintwork on our cars. While nature can’t help you, Halfords can. A Halfords’ car polisher will work wonders on your fading finish, restoring it to its glistening and gleaming glory.

A car buffer uses a rotating disk to work away at any scratches or abrasions and restore lost lustre. The disks come in a variety of strengths, with hard pads used to remove any swirls or scrapes, and softer pads used to bring back the shine.

How to use a car polisher

Using a car polishing machine may look like a hassle, but it’s actually pretty simple. The advice is to go gently and take your time. Rushing or going too-hard too-soon could result in your paint job needing expensive expert help.

A car buffer should be used as part of a complete car cleaning - opens in a new tab regime. You’ll need to ensure the surface is prepped and ready, so use a car shampoo - opens in a new tab. While you can go buffing without it, the finish is smoother with dedicated car polish - opens in a new tab. And don’t forget to seal the deal with a car wax - opens in a new tab.

As well as taking care of the outside, our car steam cleaners can bring ugly upholstery back to life too. A car upholstery cleaner uses the power of steam to work away at stains and marks, giving your seats a fresh look.

Our car steamers and car polishers are part of our massive range of car cleaning products, all available online or at your local Halfords store. We’ve made it easy to choose your perfect car cleaning kit, and even simpler to buy with Click and Collect to your local store, free delivery over £20 and options to spread the cost.

How long does it take to machine polish a car?

Machine polishing a standard sized car will typically take 2-5 hours, depending on size and condition. Using a quality range of polishers & accessories from Halfords, you will achieve a smooth even finish whilst saving time and effort - machine polishing is much quicker than hand polishing!

How to polish a car with a buffer?

Wash and dry the car first so there is no loose dirt. Apply a small amount of polish to the pad, then work on one small area at a time. Keep the buffer moving and do not press too hard. Take it slow and wipe the area clean before moving on.

Can you polish a ceramic coated car?

You can polish a ceramic coated car, but it should be done carefully. Polishing can wear down or remove the coating if it is too aggressive. Light polishing is usually fine, but heavy correction may mean the coating needs reapplying afterwards.

How to use a dual action polisher on a car?

Add polish to the pad, place it flat on the paint, then turn it on. Move it slowly across the panel and let the machine do the work. Wipe off the polish once finished.
