Nextbase DAB250 DAB Adapter is rated out of 5 by 11.Rated 1 out of 5 by BonnieH from Absolutely useless I Bought one of these gadgets from Halfords a few months ago. As I had another DAB adaptor in my other vehicle, and knowing how hit and miss the windscreen antennas are, I bought an external aerial at the same time. Fitted both to the car. Hey Presto! It worked. Until I went out for a drive. A quarter of a mile up the road and nothing, no signal. Went home and fitted the glass mount supplied, still no signal. Tried it all on the wife's car. It was ok for a couple of miles. Decided it was an aerial problem and went back to Halfords for a replacement one. It did the trick, However the unit was saying 14 stations compared to the 47 that I get on my Pama plug and play in my other vehicle. Having said that, the nextbase loses the signal at the slightest provocation, and to be honest, it is not pleasant to listen to with all the breaking up. Have now got another Pama, on the same antenna, No problems, and half the price! I will be keeping away from Next Base products in future.Date published: 2018-06-20Rated 1 out of 5 by Wardy01 from Rubbish Fitted to my work van no problem, I got a list of DAB stations pretty quick and all worked well until I drove 20yds up the road then all I got was not available displayed on the screen for every channel. For the rest of my hour long journey all I got was silence from the £74 paperweight. Taken straight back for a refund.Date published: 2018-06-14Rated 5 out of 5 by gerryatric from airiel this unit is one of the best ever used. But the aerial supplied with it is useless, I use a sonachi mini magnetic Ariel and have never lost signal and have been all over the country as I am a van driverDate published: 2018-05-15Rated 1 out of 5 by Bulletdozer1 from Returned to store for refund..... Took mechanic 2 hours to fit and then told me head unit was faulty. Returned next day when replacement had arrived but this one he said was also faulty. It said I had 87 channels but in truth there were only 6 that worked and I have those on FM anyway. As soon as you change direction the sound breaks up. Nothing good I can say about it at all. Then while reversing realised my parking sensors had been disconnected by mechanic too! Returned to store and had it all ripped out again and parking sensors reconnected. I got a full refund - well they say I have but it hasn't arrived back in my account yet......Date published: 2018-05-10Rated 1 out of 5 by SCarter from Really poor and not worth the money I purchased this unit at the end of January. About 6 weeks later it stopped working. I tried a firmware update and that failed. I tried to reset it, and that failed. On advice from the customer support team I returned it to my local halfords for a replacement unit. For about 1 week it worked, then guess what? the unit stopped working. he exact same problem again. I managed to reset and upgrade the firmware, which meant it worked for a whole 3 day before stopping working again. I am now waiting for confirmation of a refund on it. Reliability is poor. On a long journey you are constantly having to tune ot a new station. You get interference from other peoples radios. I was willing to cope with this but having had 2 units break in less than 3 months I am not wasting anymore time on it. Buy a proper head unit for your car and save yourself the hassle!Date published: 2018-04-30Rated 1 out of 5 by Priest71 from FORGET NEXTBASE After buying a Nextbase dash cam and having no problems I thought id buy this DAB Adaptor as I spend a lot of time driving... BAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD move should of chucked the money I paid for it down the toilet. You'd get more sound from it. Followed instruction to the T about installation which was quite easy. after scanning for DAB channels and having 2-3 bars on signal strength it only found 12. when trying to listen to any of them it struggled to tune in and when it did it it only lasted for about 10sec bearing in mind I was still stationary on my drive. tried elsewhere whilst driving around and was even worse. Only had it 5days and has now ended up in the bin. Would rather listen to the wife moaning 24/7. Please Please Please don't buy 1.Date published: 2018-04-12Rated 4 out of 5 by mhard23277 from This DAB is the easy way to get DAB radio in your Car Great bit of kit to get DAB in the car without changing stereo. Only down side it loses signal in rural areas which is understandable but apart from that very pleased with it no more AM MW terrible signalsDate published: 2018-01-07Rated 2 out of 5 by RM42 from Absolutely hopeless reception. First the good, easy to fit and set up. thats that done. now the many problems: A) The sticky pads on the smaller attachment piece and suction cup on the removable one will not adhere to the standard mottled plastic trim found on many dashboards, you need a good expanse of smooth plastic for the round piece to be of any use or some glue and a devil may care attitude to your trim if you want it mounted unobtrusively. B) The clip on/off piece attaching the radio unit to the dash mount is awkward to slide onto the radio back without getting in close and watching closely to be sure all the lugs engage and the threaded grip pieces that hold the ball of the ash mount are flimsy, one has already snapped and I've had to fettle a fix with a zip tie. C) The real killer of a problem with this unit though: Even driving in the centres and populous suburbs of large cities and major A# & M# intercity trunk roads , reception is patchy at best and largely absent . BBC stations seem to transmit with more power than independents (Absolute's stable of channels can barely be received) although even these more powerful channels drop out with monotonous and infuriating regularity. I drove Manchester - Newcastle and return last weekend, deliberately leaving this unit on. I drove in near total silence for the 150 miles.barring seconds of reception giving literally the odd single line spatter of a song. In comparison to the factory fitted DAB radio in my wife's car this receiver is dross. Driving the same routes, The nextbase will receive at best 50% of the transmission my wife does. Tuning in the channels is a feat of finding a patch of good reception and stopping there. Outside my house I got 11 channels, a few hundred yards up the road 47. I have resorted to a cheap pocket DAB radio I usually take to sports with me, velcroed to the dashboard. Even running both this and the Nextbase simultaneously as a test, the pocket DAB using a headphone cable as the aerial had a far more consistent and clear reception across a range of stations. I have checked and double checked wiring, correct aerial installation, 'noise' suppression etc, the unit is and peripherals are all correctly installed. The other aggravation is that when the selected radio station drops out, you cannot tune off it using the preset buttons, they seem to freeze/become intentionally inoperative. I could not recommend this receiver unit to someone I didn't like. save a good proportion of the cost and buy a non car specific DAB and fettle a fit into your car or seek another manufacturer of a specific in car unit because this one just doesn't cut the mustard.Date published: 2018-01-02
