  • Garmin Dash Cam 55 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT Amazing quality compared to other dash cams at this price point. Painless to use - have it hardwired in and it turns on as soon as you turn the ignition on and turns off when you turn the ignition off. Means you don’t need to touch it (other than formatting the SD card every few months to ensure it’s ticking over properly). The play back app is easy to operate and the updates are done through garmin express so if you have a garmin satnav you can update both on the same software. The driving alerts are great - I have mine of full whack - telling me when I’m approaching speed camera, when I’m too close to a vehicle in front and the screen turns red when I speed. It’s easy to distinguish between the differences toned ‘bings’ so you don’t have to look at the screen to know what it’s alerting you for. Only downside is that the magnetic mount is adhesive so you only have one shot at positioning it correctly so that the camera will capture the road and the screen will still be positioned for you to see. However Halfords so sell the replacement mount if you need to do it again like myself

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A bit disappointing Small and compact and a nice design, decent video quality but can’t honestly say it’s much better than my old 3 y.o Nextbase. Collision and lane departure features just doesn’t work well, a constant distraction and in the end you just end up turning them off. Also have really issues with software updates on my Mac and gave up. Hasn’t really lived up to expectations to be honest. Have replacd with a BlackVue 590 which is more like I was expecting.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Own for 3months and dissapointed Had for a few months now, image quality is okay at day, not great at night on unlit roads. Had all types of features which don't work and the beeps are just annoying - swith them off. I paid £99 so it's not too bad for the money, but hoped for better

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little camera A very small dashcam that tucked neatly behind the rear view mirror. Very easy to install with the cigarette lighter plug. I bought the hard wire kit at the same time reduced in Halfords to £20 but after 4hrs of trying I could not get it to work. Probably need an auto electritian to fit it into the fuse box. The picture quality is very good and the fact you can just ask it to save video & pictures is great, no need to try fiddling with it while driving. The only drawback is unless you have it right in front of your face you can't see why it's beeping & bonging at you so I will most likely turn notifications off. Phone app is good and easy to use

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact dashcam with interesting features Easy to install and compact, fits easily tucked behind the rear view mirror. Works well as a dashcam and has interesting features such as the travel-lapse. Pretty good video quality although even on maximum resolution it can be difficult to read oncoming number plates if cars are passing quickly. Voice recognition is handy as you don't need to touch the unit to perform simple tasks like saving a video, taking a photo, starting a travel-lapse. However sometimes it thinks you've said "OK Garmin" when you haven't, or its heard something off the radio and started listening for a command. "Driving aids" are a bit of a gimmick, you need a subscription for the speed alerts to be any use otherwise it just bings at you all the time. Collision alert and lane departure warning could be handy if you don't like looking where you drive, otherwise not much use. Shame it doesn't have a polarising filter, but it does come with a micro SD card although only 8GB.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little camera but painful to set up using bigger gb cards Does everything you need it to do . Very study screen mount that never drops off like others I’ve seen . Comes with an 8gb micro Sd card and is a doddle to set up when setting up on computer . (With supplied card) Problems begin when you want to use a bigger card. It’s riddled with problems and is very trial and error , formatting cards etc and trying to upload firmware just gives error after error . I’m hopeful I won’t have problems when i install updates . I’m not fully convinced it’s perfectly set up but it does the job very well .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miniature wonder Purchased this for our second car after owning a Nextbase 512 in our other car. The Nextbase internal battery failed about 2 weeks out of warranty so I was keep to look at other brands. I already own other Garmin devices some of which are a mixed bag so at the sale price I hoped this would be one of the better ones. Thankfully it’s proving to be excellent with speed camera detection built in. The images are crisp and decent in all lighting conditions. I’ve set the resolution down to 1080/60fps to get smoother footage, and so far all has been good. I’ve turned off the collision warning and the lane departure features as they were slightly over fussy, my only other complaint is the menu system with the unmarked side buttons isn’t the clearest to master. Otherwise very happy with it for the price, better than the Nextbase 512 and even comes with SD card in the box. If you want to hardwire the camera to the car fusebox register it with Garmin and you’ll get a 10% off accessories voucher in their next mail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is very good and has great features I think for the money it is a top dash cam. We have one in each car. The only down side is not enough instructions with it as some previously said . we would recommend it . but turn some of the warning signs off as they can be annoying and distracting. The features are very good. And the view range is impressive to. You don't need the dearer model as rhis one has it all Love it.
