The Halfords Stem Raiser is a simple solution for raising the height of the handlebar on a bicycle to achieve a more upright riding position. The riser attaches to the top of any compatible fork steerer extending the usable stem clamping height by up to 80mm. Supplied with 30mm of spacers the height of the stem can be quickly and easily adjusted until you find the most comfortable set-up.

How to install:

1.) Loosen the two bolts at the back of the stem which clamp the stem to the fork.

2.) Undo the headset bolt, ensuring the front forks are supported to prevent them falling out when the top cap and bolt are removed.

3.) Remove the stem from the fork allowing the stem and handlebars to hang freely. *Leave any spacers in place. *At this point, check the cables are long enough to compensate for the increase in height.

4.) Install the riser stem with the clamping bolts facing towards the back of the bike.

5.) Reinstall the original stem to the desired height.

6.) Install the new top cap and bolt until hand tight, enough so there is no headset movement. It's important to avoid overtightening or under tightening this bolt. Overtight, and the handlebars will feel stiff to turn. Too loose, and there will be movement back and forth when braking.

7.) Position the stem and stem riser so they are aligned with the front wheel and tighten all stem bolts to the manufacturers recommended torque. For the stem riser, the recommended torque is 12 Nm.

8.) Before riding make sure the handlebars are secure and turn freely with no restriction. Check brake and gears are all effective before riding.

*When installing the riser, it's important to check the length of the cables. The original cable lengths may not be sufficient to reach the higher handlebar height safely. If cables are too short or stretched it can compromise braking and gear changes. Check brakes and gears are operating correctly after installation before riding.
