WeeRide Ibert Safe-T-Seat Child Bike Seat is rated out of 5 by 2.Rated 5 out of 5 by Jammygit2k2 from Seems wobbly but it's not when there's a child in it I love this seat and I've been looking for one for ages! Then it was on sale and it's worth every penny I paid and more! My little girl loves sitting in it as she can see everything that's going on around her and I know she's ok because she's between my arms and I can look at her safely. Nice and easy to fit but just make sure you have enough room on your steerer tube for it, I got an extension for mine and it worked like a charm! Doesn't even get in the way of normal peddling either!Date published: 2018-02-03Rated 5 out of 5 by Jan2018 from Big grins, great adventures Well the little one approves of this product. I somehow manage to convince her to have breakfast before we can go out for a ride. In the afternoon when it is too dark to ride, we are building a bike with a green seat at the front out of Lego. When out on the bike, fellow trail users we pass are greeted with the biggest grin and sometimes a wave, which seems to get some big smiles in return. On the roads around town, pedestrians actually shout out how awesome they think my daughter's chosen method of transport is, and you see a few dad's giving that calculating "wow, that looks fun, practical and economical!" look that dad's get. You know the one. For my mountain bike, I could only just fit the seat on, as I have a fairly short stem, and the seat touches the handlebars on the slackest setting. This means I probably get to buy a longer stem, which is awesome! Nothing like a good excuse to upgrade the bike. This should also fix the very slight problem of my knees hitting the child seat. It is contoured so your knees go to the side of the seat, for a slightly inefficient pedalling style. You don't want to go too fast anyway with a little one on board. To take the seat on and off when I just want to ride by myself, a simple yet secure clip removed the retaining pin, the seat then slides backwards and then an Allen Key removes the bracket. You MUST take this bracket off when the seat isn't on the bike, otherwise a sudden stop could see you losing some very important parts of your person. All in all about 2 minutes on then 2 minutes off, taking into account dropping your Allen key. The bolts that come with it need a 1/4" Allen key, which grates on my preference for metric parts, but a 6mm key works just as well if you're out on your bike and only have a metric set. Safety wise, I have no complaints. The forged bracket is super strong, and the bike sits securely. With the shorter stem, I can't get my child in without taking her boots off, but as I can stand over the bike this is not too much hassle. Hoping a long stem will solve this one too. I like the concept of the front seat better, as you can talk to your little one and see what they are doing. Can be a bit daunting at first straddling your bike and getting your precious child in, but after a few outings we have got it all down pat. I haven't used a rear child bike seat, but this feels it will be much easier to get on, and if I was to come off, the passenger should be shielded softly in my arms. Cars from behind don't always notice you have a child like they would for a rear mounted seat and treat you like a regular cyclist. Handling I imagine is much better than a rear mounted seat, especially up steep hills where a back heavy bike might try to tip back. The extra weight of the child is right over the center of rotation of the handlebars, so handling doesn't feel sluggish. I have been able to make a few trips already to the store with some panniers on the back, where normally I would have taken the car. At one trip a week, my expected payback period for this investment is just under a year. One last point is make sure you have warm clothes for your little one! It has been 3 degrees when we go out, and while you usually dress lighter on a bike because you're using energy to pedal, your child uses very little energy to grin, bang their feet every now and then, point at squirrels and laugh and turn the steering wheel. (The steering wheel is not attached to the actual steering of the bike, and is there for fun only and perhaps as padding) Dress your child for about 5 degrees colder than actual conditions, as they will have the wind on them. You might need to layer so you can take a layer off when you stop.Date published: 2018-01-14
